A Simple Style Guide to Help You Choose What to Wear for Newborn Photos
Your little one is on the way and you’ve scheduled your newborn session so now comes the difficult part of choosing what to wear for your in-home newborn photos! Although coordinating outfits for your family and your postpartum body may seem daunting, my hope is that this style guide will help make choosing your outfits for your newborn photo session as easy as possible!
Tips for What Mom Should Wear for Newborn Photos
For any photo session I always recommend that you choose the outfit for mom first, and that rule holds true for newborn photos as well! I’d recommend that you look for soft and neutral colors such as white, gray, and pastels as these photograph beautifully and pair well with my light and airy style, creating timeless photographs for your family. These colors also tend to compliment your baby’s skin tone and will pair well with any room in your house when you decide to frame your images!
In addition, I’d recommend that you choose something that you feel comfortable in! This is something that I feel is especially important for postpartum moms! For some moms, this might mean a long and flowy maxi dress and for others it could be a cozy sweater with leggings. Choosing an outfit that you feel confident and comfortable in will help ensure that you love your newborn photos for years to come.

Tips for What Dad Should Wear for Newborn Photos
When choosing an outfit for dad for your newborn photos I always recommend to keep things simple! As I mentioned above, choose the outfit for mom first and then coordinate dad’s outfit based off of that. Typically, jeans or khakis with a neutral shirt are great options. I always love to keep things simple with a basic t-shirt or henley, but button-downs or sweaters always photograph nicely as well!

Tips for What Baby Should Wear for Newborn Photos
Your new baby will be the star of the show at their newborn photos so it can feel a bit daunting to choose an outfit for your new little one! Once again, I recommend to keep things simple! You can’t go wrong with choosing a simple white onesie or a swaddle blanket. Additionally, I always love to include any special items that might have meaning for you that we can include in your newborn session (homemade quilts, blankets, and heirloom outfit, etc). Little rompers and knotted gowns are also great options, and I’m always a fan of diaper only photos too!

Tips for What Siblings Should Wear for Newborn Photos
Last but certainly not least, how should you dress older siblings for your newborn photos? Surprise, surprise – but once again I’d recommend to keep things simple! Choose colors that compliment the rest of the family as well as your home decor. Dresses and rompers always look cute, but make sure that older children feel comfortable in whatever you choose! Also feel free to incorporate different patterns and textures to help add depth to your photos!
